Gho Samraskshana Protection & Rehabilitation of Cows

motif

Sripuram ‘Ghoshala’ is a symbol of Sri Sakthi Amma’s love for the Universe and its people. Cow is the epitome of a selfless contributor to the spiritual and physical needs of human beings; its protection and preservation are a service to God resulting in abundant blessings from Him. Sripuram Ghoshala is house to more than 550 cows and calves which includes a sizeable number of non milking Cows (Samrakshana Cows) who would otherwise have found their way to the slaughter house.

For the Hindus and Jains, the cow is sacred and it symbolizes all other creatures. The cow is a symbol of the Earth; the nourisher, the ever-giving, undemanding provider. The cow represents life and the sustenance of life. The cow is so generous, that it gives and gives and gives of its milk, as does the liberated soul give of his spiritual knowledge. The cow is so vital to life that it becomes the virtual sustainer of life, for many humans. The cow is a symbol of grace and abundance and the veneration of the cow instills in humans the virtues of gentleness, receptivity and connectedness with nature and God.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “One can measure the greatness of a nation and its moral progress by the way it treats its animals. Cow protection to me is not mere protection of the cow. It means protection of all that lives and is helpless and weak in the world. The cow means the entire subhuman world.” Her nature is epitomized in ‘Kamadhenu’, the divine, wish-fulfilling cow.

Sripuram Ghoshala is maintained and managed by the never ending blessings of Sri Sakthi Amma and the generous contributions from Amma’s Devotees.

Gho Samrakshana Donations and Offerings On an average Rs 5000/ is expended on feeding, sheltering and health care of one animal in one month. The milk from the cows are used for, puja, making of prasadam, annadhaanam etc and therefore the maintenance cost has to be met from other sources.
