In the name of productivity and yield, much of the world’s cultivation extensively uses fertilizers. Scientific studies show evidence of the ill-effects these fertilizers have on people’s health in the long run. At Sri Narayani Peedam, tremendous attention is given to the use of organic fertilizers. A great deal of effort is put into waste management. Each day, waste from various locations is collected, segregated and is processed into bio-compost. Sheds and staging bins have been constructed to process these various types of waste matter. Sri Sakthi Amma constantly emphasizes on the use of bio-degradable materials. The bio-compost is used to fertilize the lands managed by the institution.
The waste management program has led to ZERO WASTE, and has become an employment opportunity provider, which is also completely self-sustained. Amma envisages this to be a role model for the country, wherein every community can engage in similar activity and recycle waste.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
The large amount of waste generated from the cows is transported and mixed with water to form slurry. This slurry is then pumped into a large storage tank. In the storage, slurry produces methane gas that is used as a supplement in some areas as fuel for lighting stoves - Biogas.
